Colour Trends - Yes or No?
In October Coloro released their Colours of the Year for 2026. This follows Pantone’s release of their Fashion Color Trend Report Spring/Summer 2025. I listened with interest to the colour launch webinars and heard how the colours are going to influence home decor, fashion, beauty and outdoors in 2026.
What they don’t capture in these launches is what percentage of the population actually follows and implements these colour trends. We may see Electric Fuchsia pop up on our social media accounts in 2026 but are you really going to switch out your ski jacket for a trendy vivid neon pink one or are you going to paint your living room wall Blue Aura because white is out? It’s doubtful. Instead, I would suggest that the majority of us watch the trends, pick the one or two colours that we like and add small pops of this colour into our wardrobe and home. A great example of this is a friend of mine recently purchased a Longchamp bag in bright green. The perfect way to integrate a trendy colour that they love without a major investment in a new wardrobe.
Another easy way to integrate trendy colours into your home is throw pillows or tea towels. They add a pop of colour without a large price point or commitment. I may try out a Transformative Teal pattern for curtains in my spare bedroom as I love the colours and it would brighten an otherwise boring room - not necessarily because it is on trend.
